FABMISR Adopts IBM AI Solutions to Enhance Banking Operations

First Abu Dhabi Bank Egypt (FABMISR) announced today its adoption of IBM's technologies and solutions to accelerate the deployment of enterprise AI through the IBM watsonx solution portfolio. This enables the Bank to boost productivity, support decision-making, and scale enterprise AI deployment within a secure operating model specifically designed for regulated financial environments.

In a statement today, the Bank identified several opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, including improving access to internal knowledge bases, enhancing financial analysis processes, increasing its GPU-driven computing capabilities within its technical infrastructure, and strengthening explainable AI capabilities in alignment with governance and compliance requirements.

It added that, leveraging IBM's technologies and solutions, the Bank implemented an advanced enterprise AI platform within its local infrastructure, utilizing the comprehensive capabilities of the IBM watsonx portfolio to support the end-to-end AI lifecycle under a unified framework.

It noted that the watsonx.ai platform enables the development and deployment of customized AI models and agents tailored to FABMISR's specific banking use cases, pointing out that watsonx Orchestrate complements this ecosystem by facilitating secure access to enterprise knowledge, integrating AI agents, and automating workflows, thereby supporting the Bank's vision toward an agentic, intelligent operating model.

This solution was designed by the IBM Client Engineering team, while the IBM Expert Labs team spearheaded the full project execution, combining a co-innovation approach, rapid prototyping, and expertise in scaling enterprise deployments.

By retaining AI workloads and data within the Bank's controlled technical environment, FABMISR meets the highest security, governance, and compliance requirements while accelerating the pace of innovation, according to the statement.

FABMISR launched a suite of production-ready AI-driven solutions aimed at improving access to enterprise knowledge, raising operational efficiency, and supporting data-driven decision-making.

These solutions include a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)-based AI agent providing secure, explainable access to enterprise knowledge, along with a dedicated AI agent for financial analysts developed via the watsonx.ai platform to augment financial analysis capabilities and deliver accurate, timely, and actionable insights.

In this context, Tamer El-Khouly, General Manager of IBM Egypt and Northeast Africa, stated: "Financial institutions are undergoing a clear transition from exploring AI potential to active production and driving tangible business value. This transformation demands a technical architecture grounded in trust, governance, and hybrid flexibility."

He added that through the watsonx platform, FABMISR deploys AI in a manner that balances innovation with compliance and data sovereignty requirements, demonstrating how banks can responsibly scale agentic AI while maintaining high levels of control, transparency, and operational resilience.

He noted that the IBM watsonx platform empowers financial institutions to integrate domain-specific AI assistants and agents across various business sectors and support functions, including retail banking, SME banking, and corporate banking, as well as risk, compliance, human resources, and IT.

Shaarawi Mohamed, Chief Technology Officer at FABMISR, said: "We believe that the discourse around AI has moved beyond experimentation and exploration. Today's true challenge lies in pinpointing areas where AI can generate real business value and broad operational impact."

He emphasized that our strategy at FABMISR relies on deploying AI, generative AI, and agentic AI capabilities to empower our employees, assist management in decision-making, enhance customer experience, and achieve sustainable growth.

He added that through collaboration with IBM, we are building the requisite foundation for a smart banking operating model where technology is deployed with clear objectives, robust governance, and measurable outcomes, noting that the goal extends beyond deploying AI technologies to responsibly embedding them into various aspects of our business, serving our clients, and delivering sustainable value to all stakeholders.
