Maersk Aims to Restore All Services to the Suez Canal by March 2027

The Danish Maersk Group aims to complete the return of all its shipping services to transit the Suez Canal by March 2027, according to Rabab Abou El-Ela, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Board Member of "A.P. Moller-Maersk" Group.

On the sidelines of a video conference meeting today with Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, Abou El-Ela affirmed that the Suez Canal remains the optimal choice for the Maersk Group in light of their joint strategic relations.

With Total Net Tonnages Reaching 23.3 Million Tons

Admiral Rabie stated that navigation reports recorded the transit of 276 voyages belonging to the Danish group through the canal during the period from January to September 2026, with a total net tonnage of 23.3 million tons, compared to 146 voyages with a net tonnage of 7 million tons during the same period last year.

He added that the canal is witnessing a tangible return of the group's shipping services, in light of the strategic partnership and extended relations between the two sides.

He explained that current geopolitical variables, and their reflections on rising fuel prices and freight rates, underscore the strategic importance of the Suez Canal and the economic savings it provides for mega container ship voyages, alongside higher levels of navigational safety compared to rounding the Cape of Good Hope.

For her part, Rabab Abou El-Ela praised the bilateral relations with the Suez Canal Authority, noting that they have contributed to the return of a large number of the group's shipping services to transit the canal once again.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides agreed to hold further bilateral meetings to enhance cooperation during the upcoming period.
