Mohamed Ahmed _ Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, affirmed that the "Carry On" chain represents a new model for consumer cooperatives, within the framework of the Ministry's plan to develop commodity distribution outlets and enhance their capacity to provide food products at reasonable prices, thereby supporting market stability and alleviating burdens on citizens.
During his participation in the session titled "Market Regulation and a More Effective Social Protection System" as part of the "Egypt 2026 Forum", Farouk explained that the Ministry continues to work on ensuring the regular availability of essential commodities, increasing their supply, in parallel with developing the subsidy system and monitoring markets.
The Minister pointed out that the "Carry On" chain represents a new direction for developing the consumer cooperative model and raising the efficiency of the outlets affiliated with the Ministry, enabling citizens to obtain their needs of food products at reasonable prices.
He noted that the development of these outlets aims to enhance their role in providing essential products and expanding their distribution channels, alongside supporting price competition and increasing available options for consumers, which contributes to reducing pressures associated with the rising cost of living.
Regarding market regulation, Farouk confirmed the continuation of the price reduction initiative for a period of 6 months, explaining that the initiative aims to increase the supply of commodities and enhance their availability to citizens at reasonable prices, thereby supporting market stability.
He emphasized the continued implementation of the initiative until after the month of Ramadan 2027, extending its benefits during a period that typically witnesses an increase in demand for food products.
Farouk explained that market regulation efforts rely on the regular flow of commodities and the availability of sufficient quantities thereof, alongside monitoring price movements and developing distribution outlets, which helps meet consumer needs and curb price pressures.
The Minister of Supply affirmed that the Ministry continues its efforts to ensure the regular provision of food products in markets and its affiliated retail outlets, supporting the stability of trading activity and meeting the needs of citizens.
