Commercial International Bank Egypt (CIB) has been included in Fortune's "Change the World" list for 2026 in the economic empowerment category, becoming the only bank in Africa and the Middle East to be featured on the list this year.
In a statement today, the bank explained that this achievement reflects its commitment to developing innovative financing solutions that contribute to expanding economic opportunities and enhancing financial inclusion, by directing financing to the sectors and groups most in need of support, thereby contributing to sustainable economic and social impact.
The bank's selection came in recognition of its efforts as the financial advisor for the issuance of sustainable social sukuk worth EGP 7 billion, considered one of the sustainable financing mechanisms employed by the institution to direct capital towards small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and enhance access to finance for underserved segments.
This issuance embodies the bank's vision of utilizing capital market tools to connect capital with the needs of the real economy, thereby supporting business growth, expanding investment opportunities, creating jobs, and stimulating sustainable economic development.
In this context, Hisham Ezz Al-Arab, CEO and Board Member of Commercial International Bank, stated: "We are proud of CIB's inclusion in Fortune's list for the second time, an accolade that reflects our commitment to harnessing our financial expertise to support economic growth and enhance financial inclusion."
He added: "The issuance of the EGP 7 billion sustainable social sukuk represents a model of how to employ financial innovation and expand sustainable financing mechanisms to meet genuine market needs, and to direct capital towards projects and sectors capable of achieving tangible economic and social impact."
CIB affirmed its continued efforts to support small and medium-sized enterprises, enhance financial inclusion, and expand access to financial services, driven by its belief in the vital role these enterprises play in driving economic growth, boosting productivity, creating jobs, and supporting sustainable development.
