Hapag-Lloyd prepares to resume new navigation services for transiting the Suez Canal

Juan Pablo Richards, Regional Senior Vice President of Southern Europe for the shipping line Hapag-Lloyd, affirmed that the shipping line is continuously monitoring developments in the Red Sea region and maritime safety indicators, enabling it to make appropriate decisions to amend and update sailing schedules in light of the gradual return to transiting through Bab el-Mandeb and the Suez Canal.

The Regional Senior Vice President of Southern Europe for the shipping line added that the upcoming period is set to witness the return of other navigation services belonging to the shipping line to transit the Suez Canal, in addition to two services already transiting to and from Asia via the Canal, expressing his hope for the continued improvement of positive indicators for navigation rates in the Canal.

He also expressed his aspiration to discuss ways of future cooperation with the Suez Canal in new areas of operation, pointing out in this regard that there is a future opportunity for cooperation between the Suez Canal Authority's Maritime Training and Simulation Academy and the Damietta Alliance Container Terminal ("Tahya Misr 1") at Damietta Port, to train captains for operations, given that Hapag-Lloyd is a major investor in the Damietta Alliance terminal.

This came within the context of the meeting held by Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, with the Regional Senior Vice President of Southern Europe for the shipping line Hapag-Lloyd, to discuss ways of joint cooperation, at the Authority's headquarters in the Guidance Building in Ismailia Governorate.

Admiral Rabie emphasized the Suez Canal's readiness to receive various navigation services to transit the Canal, pointing out in this regard that the Suez Canal has not stopped developing its navigation services and upgrading its marine fleet to meet customer requirements.

The Chairman of the Authority expressed his aspiration for the full return of the navigation services belonging to the shipping line Hapag-Lloyd to transit the Suez Canal, stressing that the Canal is indispensable for ensuring the sustainability of global supply chains in light of geopolitical challenges and rapid changes in the maritime transport industry.
