Mohamed Ahmed _ Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, affirmed the continuation of the state's efforts to secure the strategic reserve of essential commodities, explaining that the average inventory is sufficient for about 6 months, while reaching up to 9 months or a full year for certain commodities, depending on the nature of each commodity, consumption rates, and supply volume.
During his participation in the session "Market Regulation and a More Effective Social Protection System," as part of the proceedings of the third day of the "Egypt 2026 Forum," Farouk clarified that securing the strategic reserve enhances the state's ability to face global market fluctuations and supply chain disruptions, ensures the continued availability of essential commodities for citizens, and limits the impact of external changes on the local market.
He emphasized the importance of the regular availability of food commodities and inventory management in accordance with market needs and consumption rates, thereby maintaining supply stability and reducing the likelihood of shortages in essential products.
Regarding efforts to enhance food security, the Minister of Supply pointed out the increase in storage capacities for strategic crops from approximately 1.4 million tons to 4 million tons, enabling the accommodation of larger quantities thereof, raising the efficiency of inventory management, and securing local requirements.
Farouk affirmed that expanding storage capacities supports the state's ability to manage the strategic inventory efficiently, enhances the stability of essential commodity supplies, and raises the system's preparedness to face global market fluctuations and supply chain disruptions.
