Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, Minister of Transport, witnessed the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Alexandria Port Authority, Hassan Allam Utilities, and Al Tarek Capital for Real Estate Asset Management. The MoU aims to study the establishment, development, and operation of an integrated regional and international center for distribution, re-export, and value-added logistics services at the western hinterland of Dekheila Port, spanning an area of 273,008 square meters.
The MoU was signed by Rear Admiral Ehab Salah El-Din, Chairman of the Alexandria Port Authority, and Engineer Amr Allam, Co-CEO of Hassan Allam Holding and Chairman of Hassan Allam Utilities, in the presence of Major General Dr. Nehad Shahin, Deputy Minister of Transport for Maritime Transport, Major General Ashraf El-Lozy, Assistant Minister for Authorities and Companies, Engineer Mohamed Fathy, Head of the Central Administration for Investment and Assistant to the Minister for Maritime Transport, and Engineer Hassan Allam, Chairman and CEO of Hassan Allam Holding.
Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel El-Wazir emphasized that the signing of this MoU comes in execution of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, to position Egypt as a regional hub for transport, logistics, and transit trade, and to maximize the utilization of its strategic geographic location. This also falls within the framework of the Ministry of Transport's plan to develop Egyptian ports, maximize the utilization of their assets and capabilities, and enhance partnership with the private sector in investment and service projects, supporting sustainable economic development and the national economy.
The Minister explained that the project aims to open new horizons for investment in logistics activities at Dekheila Port by providing integrated services including storage, handling, distribution, re-export, final preparation of products, and light industries. This will generate added value for traded goods, improve services provided to exporters and importers, enhance the port's competitiveness and its capacity to attract regional and international investments and trade flows, and support the integration of Egyptian ports into global supply chains and trade networks.
The Minister of Transport pointed out that expanding the establishment of integrated logistics centers represents a key pillar of the Ministry of Transport's plan to maximize the economic yield from Egyptian ports, transforming them from mere centers for receiving vessels and handling cargo into integrated hubs for trade and logistics services. This reinforces Egypt's position as a regional hub for transport and trade, particularly in the East Mediterranean region.
The Minister directed the intensification of meetings during the upcoming period among all entities that signed the MoU to promptly prepare and sign the terms and conditions agreement, in preparation for the commencement of the project's implementation.
For his part, Engineer Amr Allam, Co-CEO of Hassan Allam Holding and Chairman of Hassan Allam Utilities, stated: "The transport and logistics sector is a key pillar in our investment strategy. We see promising opportunities to enhance integration between ports, distribution networks, and industrial activities, which contributes to improving the efficiency of cargo movement and opens broader horizons for companies to access markets."
He added that the Dekheila Port center embodies this direction, owing to its connectivity with the port and the value-added logistics services it provides, supporting more efficient and competitive supply chains and reinforcing Egypt's position as a regional hub for transport, logistics, and transit trade.
