Haby_ The Cabinet's Media Center published a statement via its official social media platforms, clarifying the facts regarding circulating statements attributed to the Prime Minister concerning the reduction of power loads for periods ranging between 6 and 8 hours daily.
The Media Center affirmed that these statements are taken out of context and are incorrect, explaining that the original statement came during the speech of Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister, during the session "The Egyptian Energy Journey: National Achievements and Future Horizons," in the context of reviewing a number of scenarios and options proposed to deal with rising energy prices, without announcing an actual decision to reduce power loads.
The Prime Minister explained during his intervention that the first scenario consists of burdening the citizen with the full increase in the cost of energy, similar to measures taken by many countries, whether developing or economically advanced, while the second scenario consists of the State bearing the increase in full, which requires the availability of necessary financial resources or resorting to borrowing to cover these burdens.
The Prime Minister added that the third scenario is based on maintaining the financial allocations specified in the budget, purchasing quantities of petroleum products in accordance with new prices and within the limits of available resources, which may lead to meeting only about 50% or 60% of citizens' needs, a matter that may necessitate resorting to more difficult measures, including reducing power loads for periods that may range between 6 and 8 hours daily.
