Yara El-Janainy_ Hassan Abdalla, Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), stated that domestic dollar resources rose from levels ranging between $2 billion and $3 billion to an average of approximately $8.5 billion during the past year.
Abdalla added, during a panel discussion titled "Foreign Exchange Resources and Debt Management" at the Egypt Forum 2026, that this improvement was achieved despite the noticeable decline in Suez Canal revenues, which represent one of the significant sources of foreign currency for the Egyptian economy.
He emphasized that domestic dollar resources represent the cornerstone of the state's ability to meet its foreign currency needs, noting that were it not for the surge in oil prices resulting from recent events, these resources would have been sufficient to cover all of the state's foreign currency requirements, and even surpass them.
