FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Why should I register my trademark?
Registration gives the owner a legal right to use the mark and to stop others from copying or using it, and makes it easier to act against infringement. It protects the value and reputation of the business and makes licensing or selling the mark easier.
What are the steps to register a trademark in Egypt?
It starts with a search for similar marks, then filing the application in the right classes of goods or services, followed by examination, publication and the opposition period, and finally the registration certificate. The process is governed by Intellectual Property Rights Law No. 82 of 2002.
How long does trademark protection last?
A registered trademark is protected for ten years, renewable for similar periods, provided the renewal is filed on time. We track renewal dates for our clients so protection does not lapse.
What can I do if someone copies my trademark?
We start by documenting and assessing the infringement, then send a warning letter or take the appropriate administrative and judicial action, such as opposing the infringing application or filing a lawsuit to stop the infringement and claim damages.
