FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What are the economic courts and which cases do they hear?
They are specialised courts established by Law No. 120 of 2008 that hear disputes arising from a number of economic laws, including the companies, capital market, financial leasing, competition, consumer protection and intellectual property laws.
What is the difference between litigation and arbitration?
Litigation takes place before state courts, while in arbitration the parties agree to refer their dispute to arbitrators they choose. In Egypt it is governed by Arbitration Law No. 27 of 1994. Arbitration is usually confidential, flexible and specialised, and we help you choose the best route for your dispute.
Can an arbitral award be enforced in Egypt?
Yes. Arbitral awards are enforced after obtaining an enforcement order from the competent court under the legal conditions, and Egypt is a party to the New York Convention on the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards.
What should I do when a commercial dispute arises?
Keep all documents and correspondence related to the dealing, and do not send replies or admissions before taking advice. We start by assessing your legal position and the available options, such as negotiation, mediation, arbitration or litigation, before taking any action.
